County authorities say they were called twice to a Raymondville residence last week after shots were reportedly fired.

A Texas County Sheriff’s Department deputy investigated a reported shooting incident late last Wednesday night at a Highway 137 residence at Raymondville.

The officer reported that a 39-year-old man at the location stated a man and woman who rent a home from him had become angry after being told to move, and had both come across the road and attacked he and his 27-year-old girlfriend.

The man told the officer that the female tenant, 24, had assaulted his girlfriend, and he had fired three shots into the air with a handgun to break up the fight. The girlfriend told the deputy she didn’t wish to pursue charges.

The officer reported that at 12:25 a.m. he received another call after the same man who reported shots had been fired from a moving vehicle. This time the man told the officer he had been lying in the dark in front of his home because he “knew something would happen,” and that the renters had left in a gray SUV and fired three shots in his direction.

The officer stated he was unable to locate signs of bullet impact on the front of the man’s residence.

A report about the incident was sent to the county prosecuting attorney.
