A record 62 children are participating in this year’s Summer Reading Program at the Houston branch of the Texas County Library.

In the program, kids read throughout July, logging the time they spend reading until they pass a certain threshold (which varies depending on skill level). Those who succeed in the program are awarded with a pizza party and prizes at the end of the month. Most of the rewards are donated by local community members and businesses, and include bicycles, toys and gift certificates.

The goal of the program is to engage young minds and promote an interest in reading. Director Audrey Barnhart and Molly Shelton oversee the program.
