Military veteran

Louis Junior Patton, 83, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at his home in Summersville.

He was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Ink, son of James Alfred and Mary Ina Sykes Patton. He and Sandy Patton were married Oct. 31, 1964.

He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a sergeant and earned the Bronze Star.

He worked for Schulenburg Construction in St. Louis for a number of years before becoming a self-employed carpenter. He worked in carpentry for more than 36 years.

He was an active and lifetime member of the VFW Post 7222 and the Masonic Lodge.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed his family and grandkids, having coffee with friends and working in his vegetablegarden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 42 years, Sandy; three brothers, Larry, Jack and Vernon; and a sister, Dorothy Winkleman.

Survivors include two sons, Kevin Patton and Brian Patto; three sisters, Wanda Schoults of Summersville, Jean Tiesel of Monett and Patricia Croy of Versailles; three grandchildren; a special friend, Ruby Cox of Granite City, Ill.; and many other family members.

Services were Sunday, July 14, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Steelman officiating. Masonic services and military honors were also held. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
