State sales tax will be exempt for back-to-school purchases on Friday through Sunday.

Texas County shoppers have the opportunity to buy back-to-school supplies without paying state sales tax Friday through Sunday.

By state law, the sales tax holiday begins on the first Friday in August and continues through the following Sunday.

This year, the three-day holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 4.

Certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, school supplies, computers, and other items as defined by the statute, are exempt from sales tax for this time period only.

Local sales taxes will still apply.

A special back-to-school section for the county’s seven school districts appears in today’s newspaper.
