Missouri State Representative Congressman Jason Smith paid a visit on Tuesday of last week to the Texas County Food Pantry in Houston.

This visit was one of many stops Smith made on his inaugural Farm Tour last week.

Smith visited with three members of the Houston High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes about the weekend food backpack program. The program started last year in the Houston School District and provides food-insecure children with nutritious meals to eat over the weekend. The FCA helps with sorting, bagging the food, and school staff members discreetly place the bag of food into participants’ backpacks.

After meeting with the students, Smith was given a brief presentation about the food pantry, and then toured the facility.

“I was happy to see Congressman Smith stop by and learn more about our operation,” pantry director Bennie Cook said. “I would like to invite everyone to stop by and learn a little more about the Texas County Food Pantry.”
