Ozarks landowners are invited to attend a Missouri Department of Conservation free deer management workshop 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Civic Center in West Plains.
According to Brad Mormann, MDC private lands conservationist, the department holds these workshops to help landowners, hunters and others manage private land for deer.
“Missouri is a great place to hunt deer,” Mormann said. “Private landowner’s management of our deer herd is the key to keeping it this way.”
Mormann said participants will learn about creating and improving habitat for deer and other wildlife, developing a deer management plan, estimating deer numbers, aging and determining how many deer an area of land can support.
“We’ll discuss using camera surveys to collect data, deer biology and conservation Department cost-share opportunities,” he said.
Registration is required to attend. To register or learn more about this program, call the MDC’s Ozark Regional office at 417-256-7161. The West Plains Civic Center is at 110 St. Louis St., West Plains.
