Texas County conducts a land tax sale Monday in front of the administrative center on Grand Avenue.

Texas County sold 12 tracts of property Monday because the owners had not paid their taxes for three years.

Treasurer-Collector Tammy Cantrell said the property brought $12,647 on the steps of the Texas County Administrative Center on Grand Avenue.

Cantrell issues a “certificate of purchase” to those successful, but it can’t be redeemed for one year. Cantrell said 120 days before the year ends, the holder must make three attempts to notify the original owner and conduct a title search.

In all, 14 tracts were offered for sale. Proceeds after three years are shared by Texas County schools, she said.
