Military veteran

Lee Roderick, 87, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born August 2, 1926, in Upton, Mo., to Leonard W. and Gracie Baker Roderick. He and Lorraine Slaughter were married July 30, 1948.

Lee served honorably in the U.S. Army from May 30, 1945 to Oct. 26, 1946. He then worked 40 years in shoe manufacturing. He worked as a superintendent for both the Brown Shoe and Juvenile Shoe Companies before retiring in 1989.

Lee was raised in Upton, Mo., where he attended the Hickory Ridge Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon and served faithfully in church all of his life. He was presently a member of Crossroads Fellowship Church in Jackson.

Loving survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lorraine of Jackson, Mo.; three children, Linda (T. Wayne) Lewis of Jackson, Mo., Doug (Kathy) Roderick of Fulton, Mo., and David (Tami) Roderick of Collinsville, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Chris (Barb) Lewis, Lisken (Leonard) Veare, Tracey (Jeff) Cox, Brad (Kellie) Stockton, Morgan (Luke) Richardson, Matthew (Tiffany) Roderick, Brad Roderick, Ben Roderick, Kara Roderick, Zack Roderick, Christian Roderick and Tori Roderick; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 11 siblings, Jim, Lowell “Jack”, Pete, Nelson, Joe, Gerald, and Tom Roderick, Norene Bromley, Veva Sandquist, Louella Bosworth, and Iretta Lauinger.

Memorial services were 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at Hickory Ridge Baptist Church in Upton. Burial followed at the church cemetery, at which time military honors were presented.Pallbearers were Chris Lewis, Brad Stockton, Matthew Roderick, Brad Roderick, Ben Roderick, Zack Roderick, and Christian Roderick.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Crossroads Fellowship.
