Winners were announced in a Summersville library contest.

Summersville’s new library will host an open house Saturday, says Audrey Barnhart, library director of the countywide system.

Rain showers recently didn’t dampen the spirits of the children and adults who wanted to take part in moving the last load of books from the old Summersville Library to the new one.

From toddlers to grandparents, each was given a book bag by the Summersville Friends of the Library group, and the Texas County Library treated the children with a new book and mood pencil.

Most stayed at the new library to sort the books they had transported to be shelved. Library board members Joni Appleton, Gwen Ross, Janet Fraley and Linda Roberts assisted with the move. A grand opening block party is 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, Aug. 17.

Activities are free, including hot dogs, snow cones and live music. Everyone is welcome.

Kathie Cox is the branch library.
