An event to raise funds for firefighting equipment is planned for Roby.

The Roby Fire Department is conducting two events designed to raise funds for the purchase of equipment.

The 2013 Roby Royalty Contest will result in the naming of six winners in three different categories. The Roby King and Queen will be chosen from participants ninth grade to 20 years old, the Prince and Princess from fourth to eighth grade, and the Young Senior and Miss from four years old to third grade.

Aspiring royalty will place containers at stores for collecting votes. Voters may vote as many times as they wish, with votes costing a penny apiece.

Cans are to be taken to the Roby Fire Department on between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sept. 14 for tabulation of votes. For more information, call Michelle at 417-967-1446.

The department will host its annual parade at 3 p.m. Sept. 21 with the top three floats earning trophies. The theme this year is “Honoring Those Who Serve.”

Anyone may enter a float in the parade. Entrants should sign up at 2 p.m. under the overhang of the blue building next to Walt’s on Highway 17 in Roby.
