Texas County’s U.S. 63 traffic gridlock may get better today as part of Interstate 44 reopened in Phelps County.
A portion near Jerome closed yesterday due to high water — sending a flood of traffic into the county on U.S. 63. Vehicles backed up. Traffic lights were adjusted. Suddenly, traveling across Houston became a chore.
The National Weather Service says heavy rain will arrive again this evening.
Highway BB at Boiling Springs is not open. Highway FF in Houston (Walnut Street) is closed due to utility work.
Updated at 8:34 a.m. Thursday: All lanes of Interstate 44 at mile marker 172 near Jerome are open. U.S. 63 at Westphalia has also re-opened after being closed due to flooding.
Missouri Department of Transportation officials continue to monitor high waters near Highway 50 at Mount Sterling, but it remains open at this time.
More than 40 roads throughout the state, mostly in central Missouri, remain closed due to flooding.
