A Raymondville Fire Department truck pull on Aug. 3 helped the organization make its final payment on its fire station and contributed toward daily operation costs, organizers said this week.

The event — with the Draggin’ Wagon Sled Team — nearly was not held because of wet grounds. Volunteers went to work early preparing the track and by 6 p.m. — only an hour late — the first trucks were pulling for hometown bragging rights in 20 gas and diesel classes.

“We feel that even with the rain the night before, this was a very successful event,” said Guy Ceplina, an organizer.

A 50-50 raffle also was held. The winner, Stephanie Baker, donated a portion of her winnings back to the department, Ceplina said.
