Bessie Laverne Smith, 96, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Birch Tree Place Nursing Center.
She was born May 11, 1917, daughter of William Grover and Nancy Eliza Duncan Smith.
She was a lifelong Christian. She was a member of the Summersville Church of Christ and enjoyed many happy times with her extended church family.
She loved to teach. She taught for 40 years, mostly in Pacific.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Fred, Oscar and Don; and a sister, Mabel Smith.
Survivors include many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Services were Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Bradford Funeral Home with Brother William Fleener officiating. Burial was in Summersville City Cemetery.
