A land-use study involving Fort Leonard Wood and the area will be unveiled at a meeting.

A Fort Leonard Wood Joint Land Use Study that began one year ago is complete and will be presented Oct. 3.

The presentation begins at 7 p.m. at the St. Robert Municipal Center municipal courtroom at 194 Eastlawn Ave., Ste. A. The meeting is open to the public. No reservations are required.

The study aimed to identify ways for communities surrounding Fort Leonard Wood to work with the military to ensure continued success in both the economies of those communities and the military installation’s missions.

The U.S. Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment funded the project and appointed Meramec Regional Planning Commission to administer it and coordinate the process between local governments, Fort Leonard Wood and other regional stakeholders in May 2012.

The study area included portions of Pulaski, Phelps, Laclede and Texas counties as well as the cities of St. Robert and Waynesville.

A policy committee comprised of officials throughout the four-county area selected Benchmark CMR, LLC to complete the study in August 2012. Its proposal was one of seven considered by the committee. Since that time, Benchmark has met with elected officials and local leaders gathering information and data.
