The Houston City Council has gone on record in opposition to an override of House Bill 253 during a veto session in Jefferson City.

The council, voting unanimously, encouraged state Rep. Robert Ross and state Sen. Mike Cunningham not to support efforts to override the tax cut bill vetoed by Gov. Jay Nixon.

Opponents of the measure — including the Houston board of education — say cuts would result, which would hurt the region, including schools.
