Houston police officers handled several investigations during the last week.

Houston police handled these investigations during the last week:

•Stephanie G. Smart, 42, of 5596 Highway Z in Cabool, was arrested Sept. 14 for having two active Phelps County warrants – one for failure to appear on a charge of no vehicle registration, and another for no drivers license. Smart was arrested after an officer pulled her over on U.S. 63 at about 9:15 a.m. for a license plate violation.

A computer check then revealed the warrants.  Smart was issued a citation for driving with an expired license plate, and was taken to the Texas County Jail on the warrants where she posted $2,000 bond and was released.

•Justin T. Evon, 29, of Bucyrus, was issued citations for stealing under $500 on Aug. 30 and again on Sept. 9 after a pair of incidents at Walmart.

Evon was first cited after allegedly taking a toy laptop off the shelf and taking it straight to the service desk for a refund. He reportedly produced a receipt from an Aug. 15 purchase of the same item, and used the refund money to buy diapers.

Evon was cited again 10 days later after being observed drinking a container of orange juice at about 9 p.m. and then leaving the empty container on the shelf, police said.
