Military veteran

Junior Wilbanks, 85, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Mountain View Healthcare.

He was born Feb. 2, 1928, in Arroll, son of Caney and Elizabeth Wilbanks. He and Cleeda Marie Turner were married March 5, 1949.

He was drafted in the Army and served as a paratrooper for 18 months until 1947.

While serving in the military, he bought a small farm in the Oakside community. While farming, he worked at the MFA Farmers Exchange for 10 years and became manager. He also served on many committees while continuing to farm and milk cows daily.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Oakside School Board, Oakside Cemetery Board and the Mountain View Saddle Club.

He and his wife, Cleeda, were baptized together Dec. 30, 1979.

Junior enjoyed hunting with his son and son-in-law, fishing with his wife and his grandchildren, riding horses and playing cards with friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Iva Dyer.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Cleeda; two children, Judy Ann and Gary Dale; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a host of other family members and friends.

Services were Friday, Aug. 30, at Bradford Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Boyd officiating. Burial was in Oakside Cemetery.
