Charles A. Beck Jr. is sought in Kansas after one was person was murdered and another person critically injured, Derby, Kan., police said.

A man wanted for a Kansas murder was arrested Sunday night in Texas County. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported Charles A. Beck Jr., 40, was arrested at about 9:18 p.m. following an operation in northwest Texas County that involved officers with the patrol and Texas County Sheriff’s Department.

Beck, who has relatives in the Plato area, is suspected of killing a Derby, Kan., mother and stabbing her teenage son Sunday morning.

The mother was taken to a Wichita hospital in extremely critical condition where she later died. An official cause of death has yet to be determined, but emergency crews at the scene called it a possible strangulation.

The woman’s 15-year-old son is in fair condition with stab wounds to his neck.

The victims’ names have not been released.

Police were looking for Beck as a possible suspect. He was described as 40-year-old white male standing 6 feet tall and weighing 240 pounds. He was last seen driving a white 2001 Dodge Caravan with a Kansas tag of “866 FAX.” Police said he was friends with the mother.

Derby police said others were in the home at the time of the incident, but further details were not provided.
