Two Licking residents were injured Saturday afternoon in a Phelps County crash on I-44.
Tpr. Jonathon Fariole said an eastbound 2002 Ford Taurus driven by Random C. Bailey, 19, of Rolla, was changing lanes when it struck a 2011 Kenworth tractor driven by Terry W. Strickland, 54, of Claremore, Okla.
Two passengers in the Bailey vehicle received injuries: Danielle M. Chambers, 23, had serious injuries and was flown to University Hospital in Columbia. Dustin L. Hanson, 29, Licking, had minor injuries and was transported to Phelps County Regional Medical Center at Rolla. Bailey also was taken to the Rolla hospital with minor injuries.
Fariole said the 3:41 p.m. crash set off a chain reaction: The car traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a cable median barrier, returned to the roadway and was struck by the big rig on the right side. The Ford went off the left side of the roadway again, struck the cable median barrier and came to rest.
The car was totaled. None of the occupants of the car was wearing a seat belt. The truck driver was restrained, Fariole said.
