First Baptist Church in Houston will have a new pastor beginning Sunday.

A local church has named a transitional pastor whose duties begin Sunday.

Dr. James D. Butterfield of Camdenton will lead First Baptist Church of Houston through a program of the Missouri Baptist Association that provides teaching and direction for churches without a senior pastor. Butterfield is expected to hold the post nine to 18 months.

Butterfield, who filled the same transitional role at First Baptist Church of Iberia from February 2009 through June 2011, is a graduate of Nevada (Mo.) High School. He earned a degree in religious studies from Southwest Baptist University and completed extensive graduate studies, including a doctor of ministry through Evangel Christian University.

A former youth and music minister, Butterfield has been the senior pastor at First Baptist Church of Syracuse, Mo., as well as First Baptist Church and Calvary Community Church in Pleasant Hill. He most recently was the minister of administration and discipleship at FBC of Camdenton before his transitional pastor role in Iberia.

Butterfield, age 53, married his wife, Maggie, in May 1981. They have four children, Joshua, 28; Justice, 25; Sarah, 21; and Ashley, 15.
