Houston is among four finalists in its population category in a contest that judges the most progressive communities in the state, it was announced Tuesday.
Winners will be announced later this month at the 50th annual Community Betterment Conference at Lake of the Ozarks.
Finalists in Houston’s population category are Albany, Fayette and Windsor.
Judges visited last month and reviewed Houston’s portfolio of projects completed this past year:
•The expansion of Texas County Memorial Hospital.
•A tree inventory and major planting of new trees in Emmett Kelly Park.
•Creation of social networking for Community Betterment and Arts Council of Houston.
•Carry the Cross, a display of crosses and faith on Good Friday along U.S. 63 in Texas County.
•Houston Visitor’s Center volunteer project.
•Rachel’s Challenge, a program presented at Houston High School.
•Share Your Christmas, a project to help children in Texas County.
