Jerilynn Virle Spielman Kirkman, 71, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born Dec. 1, 1941, in Omaha, Neb., daughter of Gerald Bryan and Dollie Margaret Nunnally Spielman. She and Jack D. Kirkman were married Aug. 10, 1973.

She graduated in 1959 from Tekamah High School in Tekamah, Neb. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and minor in business from Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb.

She was a teacher all of her life. She began teaching in Kingsley, Iowa, and later taught in Fremont, Neb. She then moved to Summersville, where she taught Title 1 junior high, elementary math, first grade, computer lab and science lab for kindergarten through the sixth grade for a total of 31 years. After her retirement in 2003, she was the parent educator for 10 years of Summersville School’s Parents as Teachers program.

She enjoyed children, animals and spending time with her family and friends. She

loved spending time with her new granddaughter Allison.

She attended First Christian Church in Summersville and enjoyed being a Thirty One

consultant.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Hazel Spielman; and her husband, Jack.

Survivors include a son, Jason Kirkman of Summersville; a stepdaughter, Jackie Cooper of Summersville; a stepson, Michael Kirkman of Summersville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Summersville First Christian Church with Pastor Paul Hamm officiating. Burial was in Summersville City Cemetery under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home.
