A southern Texas County man was arrested after a neighbor reported a shooting incident, county authorities said.

A 50-year-old Willow Springs man was arrested Friday after allegedly firing a rifle at his 27-year-old male neighbor during an incident, Texas County authorities said.

An investigating county stated that after the shooting was reported, the suspect was located and handcuffed at his Highway 137 residence. Deputies then conducted a search of the property and located a .22 caliber rifle in a shed next to a bed where the suspect had apparently slept.

Officers reportedly also found 11 marijuana plants growing in the shed. The suspect stated the rifle was his, but that he didn’t know where the pot plants came from.

The suspect told officers the incident began when his neighbor made a foul face at him. He stated he sometimes fires his rifle to relieve stress.

The suspect was taken to the Texas County Jail and held pending charges pertaining to assault, unlawful use of a weapon and growing marijuana.
