Houston will celebrate three recent wins in the Missouri Community Betterment Program annual competition with a reception Nov. 14.
Jan Simon, state director of the program, will present community signage that denotes the honors for Houston during a 4 p.m. reception at the Houston Storm Shelter at First and Pine streets.
Houston won first place in its population category, first for its youth group and the youth organization also won overall for Missouri.
Officials honored 29 communities and 13 individuals during the annual awards banquet last week. Nearly 325 volunteers, youth and leaders from across the state attended. A large contingent from Houston, led by Elaine Campbell, was present. Houston has never won the overall youth award before. Â
