Three trucks and eight firefighters from the Houston Rural Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Wednesday afternoon on U.S. 63 south of Houston.
Houston Rural Chief Don Gaston said the blaze took place in a shop building next to the residence of Sean Huff, at 6651 U.S. 63.
Although the outside of the garage appeared largely undamaged, Gaston said the building was a total loss and numerous power tools and pieces of equipment that were stored inside were destroyed.
“It was a metal building, and it was all contained inside and the smoke wasn’t getting out,” he said. “It didn’t fall in or anything, but the rafters up in it were all wood and it was in pretty bad shape. I’d say it was pretty much destroyed.”
Firefighters got the call at 11:57 a.m. and left the Walnut Street station at 12:04. Gaston said the cause of the fire wasn’t known.
