Houston’s city administrator praised the effort of the city’s public grounds department during the recent snow and ice that covered streets. The comments came in a report to the Houston City Council.
Larry Sutton said he appreciated the assistance of all departments who helped with backhoes, front-end loaders and other equipment. Sutton reported to the council that additional city staff will be trained to run plows and start a back-up crew to relieve regular employees so they don’t have to work so many long hours.
Sutton also sought the city council’s input on possibly blocking off Grand, Pine, Steffens, Main and Mill from Chestnut to Walnut before snow begins. To assist in the process, the parking lot behind Evans Funeral Home would be used for downtown parking, he said. By doing this, the snow will not be packed and would be much easier to remove, Sutton said.
