Edna Maye Lancaster, daughter of William T. and Eva Cathirene (Winters) Payne, was born April 7, 1915, near Edgar Springs, Mo. She departed this life at 5:25 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, in Houston House Care Center of Houston, Mo. Edna had attained the age of 98 years and 8 months.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Lancaster, on June 25, 1992; one son, Robert “Bobby” Lancaster on February 16, 1969; her father and mother; three brothers, William, Floyd and Orville Payne; two sisters, Opal Stevenson and Violet Huff; and one grandson, Ivan Cross.

She leaves to mourn her passing her five children, Juanita Barnett of Iberia, Mo., Loretta Caudle and Dwayne Lancaster of Columbia, Mo., Glinda Lancaster of Plato, Mo., and Linda Lancaster of Houston, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Lewis and Edna spent 58 years of their marriage on their farm at Evening Shade, where they raised their family. She enjoyed outdoor life, loved gardening, her flowers and yard. She made many quilts, one for each of her grandchildren.

Early in life, Edna placed her faith in Christ. She made her confession of faith and was saved at Palace Union Church. She was a faithful member as long as her health permitted.

Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Palace Union Church with Eugene Earp officiating. Burial was in Palace Cemetery. Pallbearers were Leon Mace, Ronnie Atterberry, Aaron Atterberry, Eric Caudle, Steve Spencer and Jeff Spencer. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Hall, Kevin Niebriegge and Leonard Niebriegge. Services were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
