George Ernest Ice, 73, departed this life on Dec. 6, 2013. He was the son of Calvin and Julia (Stankey) Ice, born Nov. 20, 1940, in Houston, Mo.
He was saved and baptized at a young age while attending Grandview Baptist Church. He attended Grandview Grade School and graduated Cabool High School in 1957. He graduated from Northeast Missouri State University in 1976.
On Aug. 18, 1960, he married Naomi Ireland. They lived and raised their daughters in Ballwin, Mo. George retired in 1993, and they moved to their Shayrenda Ridge Ranch southeast of Houston, in 1995. While living in Ballwin, George worked for 30 years as a patrolman and detective for the St. Louis County Police Department. He enjoyed his career as a policeman. He had many hobbies, his most important, being a great husband, father and grandfather. He loved being with his family, camping, traveling, hunting, fishing and just being in the woods and out in the country. He was a “country boy” at heart. He also loved his church family and attending Central Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi; two daughters, Darenda Hatcher and husband, Eddie, of Woodbridge, Va., and Dasha Noll and husband, Todd, of Villa Ridge, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Brianna Hatcher, Eddie Hatcher III and Braedon Noll. His grandson, Eddie, helped care for him during the last weeks of his life.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Don Ice; and sister, Shirley Greathouse.
George will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Evans Funeral Home. Services will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Hamilton officiating. Pallbearers will be Byron Hester, Charles Norman, Ronnie Ice, Julius Fraley, James Booker, Rueben Roedeske, Darrin Ice and Chris Ely. Burial will be in Ozark Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
