George H. Rodgers, MD, 87, of Prairie Village, Kan, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Research Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 27, 1926, in Licking, son of William Dorris and Elsie Rodgers.

He was a resident of the Reminiscence Unit at Brighton Gardens Prairie Village since October 2012.

He attended the University of Missouri in Columbia and transferred to medical school at the University of Colorado in Denver, where he received his doctorate of medicine in 1950. We went into general practice and served in the Army. He was stationed in Germany from 1956-’57.

He returned to Iowa for general practice and then to General Hospital in Kansas City for his residency specializing in urology. He practiced at Research Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital until his retirement in 1990.

Upon retirement, he spent time playing lots of golf. He was a member of Leawood South.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roland Rodgers.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Wanda Lea Rodgers; two sons, Douglas of Overland Park, Kan., and David M. Rodgers of Chicago, Ill.; two grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Fox Funeral Home. Burial will be in Licking Cemetery.
