The Houston boys’ and girls’ basketball teams tip off play in holiday basketball tournaments today.

The Tigers, seeded ninth in the Cabool Holiday Tournament, face No. 8 Licking at 10:30 a.m. The Lady Tigers will play St. James at 3 p.m. in the Rolla Holiday Tournament.

The HHS boys (4-3) have won three of their last four games entering the holiday break. The last was a 59-40 victory – the team’s biggest winning margin of the season – Saturday against Newburg in the consolation final of the Mansfield Invitational. The Tigers are over .500 for the first time since the 2010 season.

Senior Devin Coulter is 32 points shy of 1,000 for his career.

The loser of the Houston-Licking matchup receives a bye in the consolation bracket. The winner will play top-seeded Liberty at 3 p.m. Friday.

The Lady Tigers (2-4) have lost three straight entering the holidays. Two of those games – an overtime loss to Newburg and last-minute defeat against Laquey – were by three and four points, respectively.

The winner of the St. James-Houston game will play the Rolla-Sedalia winner at 5 p.m. Friday. The loser will face the loser of that same game at 2 p.m. in the consolation bracket.
