A cold-shooting night led to a lopsided loss for the Houston Lady Tigers in the opening round of the Lady Bulldog Invitational.

HHS shot just 28 percent from the floor and was 0-for-13 from downtown in a 50-31 defeat Thursday night to Seymour.

The fourth-seeded Lady Tigers (1-1) play No. 8 Cabool at 7 p.m. Saturday. The game was postponed one day due to inclement weather. Seymour advances to play top-seeded Dora in the semifinals.

Houston missed five shots and committed six turnovers in the opening seven minutes as Seymour raced ahead 12-0. The Lady Tigers got their first points when Kylee Elmore scored with 57 seconds left in the first quarter.

HHS managed just three first-half field goals – Kaylea Preheim scored on the next possession following Elmore’s score and Sydney Cremer had a second-quarter basket – and trailed 25-6 at the half.

Sarah Kelley, who missed the season opener for a minor heart procedure, led the Lady Tigers with nine points. Elmore and Abby Casper scored six points apiece.

Houston committed 20 turnovers – compared to eight by Seymour. Casper had four of the team’s nine steals.
