Ludie Mae Hammett Gale, 88, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Houston House.
She was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Henderson, Texas, daughter of Otis and Ada Moore Hammett. She and James “Vester” Gale were married Dec. 23, 1944.
She grew up in Henderson, Texas, before moving to Eunice and buying a farm with her husband. She loved her animals and enjoyed gardening.
She worked for Angelica Uniform factory until retiring due to her health. In 1983, they bought a home in Houston and lived there until she joined Houston House in 1999.
She attended Eunice Baptist Church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vester; two sisters, Linnie Brown and Adelle Parrott; and two brothers.
Survivors include a brother, Lonnie “Bud” Hammett of Henderson, Texas; and a special friend, Edna Beasley of Houston.
Services were Saturday, Nov. 30, at Evans Funeral Home with Brother Brad Wallace officiating. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery.
