Houston sophomore Shelby Cremer puts up a second-half shot between Salem defenders.

A strong third quarter pushed the Houston Lady Tigers ahead of Salem. But a difficult fourth quarter left the Lady Tigers with their first conference loss.

Salem scored 15 of the first 17 points of the fourth quarter to erase a four-point deficit Thursday night and beat HHS 56-52 inside Hiett Gymnasium.

Junior Kylee Elmore hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 17 points for the Lady Tigers (4-8, 1-1 South Central Association). Sarah Kelley had 16 points.

Houston trailed by five points at the half, but the deficit was quickly erased with a 10-0 run early in the third quarter. With their fullcourt pressure creating problems for Salem, the Lady Tigers got a pair of baskets from Sydney Cremer, a Kelley layup and triple by Elmore to go ahead 37-30.

HHS was ahead by four points entering the final quarter. And that advantage didn’t last long.

Salem opened the quarter with a 7-0 run and after an Elmore baseline jumper, scored eight unanswered points to take a commanding 52-43 lead. Salem stayed comfortably ahead the rest of the way.

Savannah Hanning scored 20 points to lead all scorers and Kari Hatridge added 14 points and hit three of Salem’s six triples.

JUNIOR VARSITY: The JV Lady Tigers improved to 4-2 and won consecutive games the first time this season by beating Salem 34-28 Thursday night inside Hiett Gymnasium.

Freshman Jaydin Ramsey scored 11 points for Houston, which after trailing 8-5 early led by nine points entering the fourth quarter.

The Lady Tigers, who had one 3-pointer through their first six games, got triples from Ramsey and Stephani Crewse.
