The Houston School District has missed enough days for inclement weather that not every one of them will be made up.

Superintendent Scott Dill said the state requires districts to make up six days, then alternate makeup days for each day missed beyond that. Houston missed its eighth day Wednesday –– a free day that won’t be made up –– and will be out for a ninth time on Thursday.

There is a complete forgiveness for districts when they reach 10 makeup days. That number does not include the free alternating days. So Houston will need to miss 14 total days to meet that threshold.

Dill said he might ask the school board to amend the calendar to ensure the district will release for the summer break before Memorial Day. Among the options are removing one day from the five-day Easter break or a Saturday session. Dill said he would prefer not to host classes on Saturday.
