Military veteran

Stephen Lewis, 73, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014.

He was born Nov. 4, 1940, in St. Louis, son of William F. Lewis and Elsie M. Stephens. He and Amalia “Amy” Manzano were married on Jan. 25, 1989, in Pampanga Philippines.

He grew up in Richland and joined the Navy on April 15, 1959. He earned several awards and commendations from the Navy, including National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (2), Vietnam Service Medal (6 stars), Good Conduct Medal (2), Combat Action Ribbon, Fire Fighter Asst. Dist. Devise, Letters of Commendation (2) and Meritorious Unit Commendation. He obtained the rank of E6 before his retirement on Oct. 1, 1989, after 30 years of service.

He was member of Simmons Baptist Church and was caretaker of the Baptist youth camp from 1994-’96.

He enjoyed reading books and listening to music.

Survivors include his wife, Amy of the home; two sons, Jezreel of Springfield and Jericho of Waynesville; a brother, Kerry Lewis of Houston; and a sister, Frances Lueck of Sunrise Beach.

Military honors will be held at later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery- Ft. Leonard Wood.
