There was little Christmas cheer for the Houston Tigers during the holiday break.
HHS lost three games –– two at the Cabool Holiday Tournament and another against Alton on Friday –– for its first losing skid of the year. The Tigers (4-6) also fell under .500 on the season.
The holiday play began Dec. 26 with a matchup against rival Licking to kick off the 14th annual tournament in Cabool. After rallying from a 14-point halftime deficit to take the lead, the Tigers managed just two points the final five minutes and lost 69-62.
Houston received a bye in the consolation bracket and faced Norwood. The Tigers, who beat Norwood by 19 points their previous matchup this season, lost 51-39.
Senior Devin Coulter scored 16 of his game-high 20 points in the second half as he eclipsed 1,000 for his career. He will be recognized for the achievement prior to Friday’s home game against Summersville.
On Friday, the Tigers squared off with Alton on the home court of the MSU-West Plains Grizzlies. HHS led at the half but was outscored 37-25 in the second half and lost 56-48.
Coulter scored 13 points and junior Kolby Walker added 11 for the Tigers, who were ahead 23-19 at the break.
