The Houston Tigers just missed a chance for hardware at the Liberty Invitational.

Doniphan broke a tied game by outscoring HHS 14-7 in the fourth quarter en route to a 49-42 victory Saturday in the consolation final of the Liberty Invitational.

Senior Devin Coulter, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the Tigers with 15 points. Aaron Cantrell added 11.

Houston (6-9) overcame a halftime deficit with an 18-13 edge in the third quarter to tie the score. But Doniphan was able to pull away down the stretch.

On Friday, the Tigers posted their most points of the season as they beat Koshkonong 81-64.

Cantrell led HHS with 30 points, including a two-handed slam, and 13 rebounds. Coulter added 23 and junior Dylan Hooper hit three 3-pointers en route to 14 points.

The Tigers led by as many as 14 points in the first half before Koshkonong rallied to tie the score at the half. Houston pulled away with a five-point edge in the third and doubled up its opponents 24-12 in the fourth.

The 81 points topped the previous high of 66 established in an overtime victory Dec. 17 at Stoutland. It was the program’s most points since the Tigers scored 95 against Summersville on Jan. 12, 2012, under former coach Tom Brown.
