An annual membership drive for Downtown Houston Inc. will soon get under way. Officials said a strong membership base has allowed it to win several grants and tax credits over the years for projects, including the Lone Star Plaza and Houston Visitors’ Center, as well as new sidewalks and lighting for the downtown business district.
Lots of projects are on the organization’s drawing board: Expansion of the Houston Farmers Market through a recently formed subcommittee, renovation of the idle Melba Theatre and transforming property on Main Street for use by Friends of the Library and the farmers market, where refrigeration equipment is planned.
Key to most of the effort is approval of a tax credit application by the Missouri Department of Economic Development, which is expected to announce a ruling soon.
