Dwight Ivan Adkison, 68, son of Lewie C. and Lucy (Vaughan) Adkison, was born April 28, 1945, in Solo, Mo. He passed away Feb. 5, 2014, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., after a long battle of heart failure, especially the past three months.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Arlene Creason; a brother, Dewain Adkison; and two nieces,; Darla Knight and Cheri Creason.

He is survived by his wife, Reta of Houston, Mo.; two sons, Shawn Adkison and wife, Christine, of Licking, Mo., and Russell Adkison of Houston, Mo.; one daughter, Tamra Schaller and husband, Jack, of Webb City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Grant, Cody and AJ; a sister, Darlene Knight and husband, Chester, of Fair Grove, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Jim Creason of Success, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Polly Adkison of Houston, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dwight grew up in the Solo and Houston area and graduated from Houston High School in 1963. He married Reta Uhrig on Aug. 14, 1965, and to this union two sons and one daughter was born.

Dwight was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Solo, Mo. He had received Christ as his Savior at an early age and remained faithful. He was active in the church and taught Sunday school.

Dwight retired from the phone company CenturyTel and since has enjoyed the outdoors, farming, country dancing, deer hunting and fishing.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services were 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10 at Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Norman Orr officiating. Burial was in Pine Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph Cockrum, Dean Wilson, Mike Best, Darrel Scheets, Rick Dixon and Richard Best.
