Filings opened Tuesday for party nominees for the August Primary.

Filings open today for various offices.

The coming year will bring a full plate of political activity — with a number of federal, state and county elected positions on the ballot.

On the state level, voters will elect a state auditor. Residents in the 8th District will elect a member of Congress. U.S. Rep. Jason Smith won the slot in a special election earlier this year. Also on the ballot are the 142nd state representative’s position held by Robert Ross, R-Yukon; and Circuit Judge David Warren, 25th Circuit, Division 2, from Waynesville, who is retiring.

Several county positions also will be filled: The terms of Associate Circuit Judge Doug Gaston, Presiding Commissioner Fred Stenger, County Clerk Don Troutman, Circuit Clerk Marci Mosley, Recorder of Deeds Susan Warkentin and Prosecuting Attorney Mike Anderson expire.

Voters also will elect township committeemen and committeewoman for political parties.

Filings close March 25. The primary is Aug. 5.
