Mountain Grove blocked the Houston Lady Tigers’ path to a tournament championship. And two days later, the Lady Panthers got a conference victory over HHS as well.

After upsetting Licking in the semifinals, Houston’s cinderella run in the Mansfield Tournament ended Saturday night with a 49-39 loss to Mountain Grove in the championship game.

Junior Sarah Kelley had team highs of 26 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

Mountain Grove led 26-16 at the half.

On Monday, Houston faced Mountain Grove again in conference play and lost 57-36.

The Lady Tigers trailed 33-32 on Kelley’s basket with 3:03 left in the third quarter. But Mountain Grove scored 24 of the game’s final 28 points to pull away.

Kelley led Houston (7-11) with 11 points. Shelby Cremer added seven.

HHS is 1-3 in the South Central Association.

JUNIOR VARSITY: Stephani Crewse hit three 3-pointers and scored a team-best 14 points in the JV Lady Tigers’ 33-31 loss Monday at Mountain Grove.

Houston nearly rallied from a 12-point deficit.
