Two unlikely district semifinalists will meet tonight with the opportunity to advance to the championship game.

The sixth-seeded Houston Lady Tigers and No. 7 Willow Springs play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Class 3 District 10 semifinals. Licking and Hartville play at 6 p.m. in the other semifinal at Cabool High School.

HHS (9-15) advanced on Saturday with 65-51 victory against third-seeded Alton. The Lady Tigers shot a season-best 66.7 percent from the field and made 15 of their 16 foul shots in the victory.

Willow Springs pulled off an even bigger upset by knocking off second-seeded Mountain Grove 60-57. The Lady Bears (4-19) led the entire way.

HHS beat Willow Springs 49-36 when the teams met Jan. 15 inside Hiett Gymnasium. The matchup was a three-point game at the half before the Lady Tigers pulled away with an 11-4 rally to begin the third quarter.

Junior Kylee Elmore hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 16 points for Houston. The team’s leading scorer, Sarah Kelley, was held to eight points.

Beth Sherbo led Willow Springs with 14 points in the first meeting. The Lady Bears did not make a 3-pointer in the game.

The district championship game is 6 p.m. Friday.
