The Animal Shelter of Texas County is among finalists in a national contest.

A success story submitted last year by The Animal Shelter of Texas County to a contest sponsored by a San Diego based animal rescue facility and a major dog food company has made the cut and is among 10 finalists for the 2013 story of the year.

Called The Most Heartwarming Story Contest, the competition is conducted by Blue Buffalo Dog Food and the Helen Woodward Animal Center (in San Diego County, Calif.), and is open to all facilities that participate in Blue Buffalo’s “Home 4 the Holidays” program (a worldwide adoption campaign that focuses on helping pet adoption facilities and rescue groups find homes for pets during the holiday season).

TASTC’s entry chronicled the story of a Plato area man and his dog and cat, and was named a story of the week in the ongoing contest. In the next phase of the competition, the 10 finalists will be posted on the contest website, and anyone interested can read the stories and vote for their favorite. Voting began Feb. 11 and continues through 5 p.m. Feb. 20. The winner will be announced Feb. 21 and the submitting shelter facility will receive a $500 prize.
