A recently compiled report shows Houston Police Department officers filed 600 written reports in 2014, up from the previous record in 2013.

Two Texas County men were arrested and issued citations by authorities following a foot pursuit through a local cemetery.

Nathan J. Neal, 41, of 12979 Highway 17 at Plato, and Nekota S. Neal, 19, of 11804 Highway 32 at Roby, were both cited for resisting arrest following the Jan. 24 incident. Nathan Neal also had a warrant for probation violation and was booked into the Texas County Jail. Nekota Neal was detained by Licking police for suspicion of shoplifting.

The two were arrested after the Houston Police Department responded to a request by Licking police to watch for a gray Dodge pickup whose occupants were suspected of shoplifting fried chicken at the Town and Country Supermarket in Licking.

A report indicates a Houston officer spotted the truck traveling slowly on southbound U.S. 63 near the Texas County Health Department with its emergency flashers on and several vehicles trailing close behind. After briefly losing sight of the truck, the officer determined the truck had pulled into A+ Metals at the corner of Walnut Street and made contact with two men standing next to it.

The officer then saw the chicken in the truck.

An employee of the business told the officer two other men had run off just before his arrival. The pair was located near Pine Lawn Cemetery on Brushy Creek Road, and the officer ordered them to stop. They didn’t and ran west across the cemetery.

A foot pursuit followed, and the police officer caught Nathan Neal and placed him under arrest. Nekota Neal was apprehended by two Texas County Sheriff’s Department officers who had been called in to assist.
