Residents in southeast Texas County will have the opportunity Friday to learn more about a 911 issue on the ballot in April.
A 7 p.m. meeting is planned at the Clear Springs Community Building to discuss a three-eighths cent sales tax that would replace a 15 percent surtax on landline telephones.
Over the years, declining landline use has threatened the financial stability of the Wri-Tex operation, which will fold unless additional funding is found. There is no tax on cellular telephones.
Missouri is the only state in the union that does not tax cellular telephones, causing issues throughout the state as more use them.
