The Houston Area Chamber of Commerce has cancelled a May 3 banquet.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, Jan. 10, and plan to attend the premiere party of the new year when Houston Area Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual awards banquet.

Due to scheduling conflicts, the HAC board of directors voted to cancel the banquet slated for May 3. “We are cancelling the banquet,” according to Eric Wells, board treasurer, because “we want to focus our efforts on helping promote those events going on downtown.”

Volunteers interested in revitalizing the downtown business district have scheduled a May 3 event that will include music, vendors, a carnival and other activities for the public on Grand Avenue and around the Lone Star Plaza.

Upcoming events sponsored by the chamber include a truck pull and fireworks on June 28 in celebration of the country’s independence and the Texas County Fair-Old Settlers Reunion on July 31 and Aug. 1-2. Both chamber events will be at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds.
