Senior Trevor Merckling and the HHS Tigers open the 2014 season by hosting a three-team tournament with Salem, Mountain Grove and Cuba.

The Houston Tigers begin the 2014 baseball season today by hosting three teams in a season-opening tournament.

Play begins at 4 p.m. as HHS faces Salem. Mountain Grove and Cuba play in the nightcap.

Houston, which finished 8-10 last year, is looking to snap a skid of three straight losing seasons. The Tigers didn’t lose a player to graduation from last year’s team, although outfielder Chance Gale suffered a broken kneecap before the season began.
