Marjorie Alene (Flowers) Rust was born the baby of eight children to Ed and Ollie (Bishop) Flowers in Bado, MO., on Feb 3, 1926. The Flowers family moved in her early childhood to Rocky Branch area, where they made a home for many years. She attended school at Rocky Branch and later graduated from Houston High School in 1945.

She moved with her very dear friend, Doris (Gaddis) Flowers, to Springfield, Mo., where she worked at O’Reilly Hospital as a waitress in the officer’s Mess Hall. She was dating Edgar Rust in High School, and she waited for Edgar to return from the Navy in Yokohama, Japan. Upon his return in 1946, they were married on Christmas Eve. Unto this union three children were born: Charles Richard, Donald Robert, and Lesa Marie. Don married Janet (Haney) Rust in 1975.

Margie worked at International Shoe Factory in Houston. She baby sit several children in her home from 1952 to around 1957. She worked at Cobb’s Variety Store in Houston, and then Margie and Edgar purchased Houston Utility Shop in 1957 from her sister and brother-in-law, Mable and Columbus Tuttle. They then built on U.S. 63 a new building and store, Rust Utility Shop in 1964, doing residential and commercial plumbing, heating, electric and pump service. She was the bookkeeper, accountant and clerk through 2005. She was an avid gardener and loved to share her flowers with neighbors, friends, and family. The Flowers girls were also known in the community for their good cooking, and she was no exception.

Margie loved traveling to several destinations, including Hawaii, Las Vegas, Alaska, Mexico, Florida and the Caribbean. She also had a second home away from home at Theodosia, Mo., on Bull Shoals Lake. Food always tasted better outside, especially when shared with many friends and family at Theodosia. She loved going on boat rides and being at the camper.

Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, Karla (Rust) Adams & Matt Adams of Ozark, Mo., Chad & Maureen Rust of Wildwood, Mo., Ann Todd & Kyle Oliver of Ozark, Mo., Daren & Pattie Rust of Houston, Mo., David & Amanda Rust of Houston, Mo., and Robert Kinney of Houston.

She was also blessed with great grandchildren, Drew Porter, Ashton Porter and Jeran Todd of Ozark, Ian Rust, Marin Rust and Colleen Rust of Wildwood, Mo., Jackson Rust, Mackenzie Holder and Madeline Holder of Houston, Mo., and Emily Emery and Taylor Emery of Mountain Grove, Mo.

Margie was preceded in death by her Mother and Dad; brothers, Ray Flowers, Clark Flowers, Bob Flowers and Allen Flowers; sisters Mable Tuttle, Leona Vandivort and Lois Sponsler; and daughter-in-law, Joan (Lemons) Rust.

Services were 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Evans Funeral Home with Dr. Howell Burkhead officiating. Pallbearers were Chad Rust, Darren Rust, Dave Rust, Ian Rust, Drew Porter, Robert Kinney and Jeran Todd. Honorary pallbearers were Ricky Flowers and Roger Maxwell. Arrangements were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
