Area churches are planning Easter services.

Special services and events will be held throughout the area this weekend as Christians celebrate Easter.

The Houston Ministerial Alliance is hosting a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. Friday inside Hiett Gymnasium in coordination with the annual Carry The Cross. The service will include music from Undivided Hearts and Marty and Patti Elmore, a drama presentation, testimonies from the day and a message from David Craig, the founder of Carry The Cross.

Many local churches have also planned events. Among them reporting are:

•The Raymondville United Methodist Church hosting services for Maundy Thursday and Good Friday at 7 p.m. The Easter sunrise service is at Golden Hills Lake, followed by the Easter service Sunday at 10 a.m.

•The First Church of God in downtown Houston is hosting a worship service at 6 p.m. today (Thursday).

•A free community breakfast is 8-9 a.m. Easter at First Free Will Baptist Church. The men of the church are serving the meal.

•The message 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Souls Harbor Family Worship is “What Difference Does Easter Make?” The Gourleys will present special music. There will be an Easter egg hunt and goodie bag for children.

•An illustrated sermon titled “Symbols: An authentic look at the Last Supper” will highlight the worship experience at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Faith Fellowship. The service will also include the presentation “Arise My Love” by the church’s drama team and communion.

•First Baptist Church in Houston will hold a breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. Morning worship starts at 10:30 a.m.
