Devin Coulter continues to be at his best in conference play.
Coulter, who was the only undefeated pitcher in South Central Association games last season, extended the streak Thursday. He fanned 10 batters to lead Houston to an 8-2 home victory against Willow Springs.
Coulter gave up four hits in the complete-game victory. He walked two and allowed one earned run.
Sophomore Whitley Welch was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Tigers’ offense. Coulter and Tanner Cantrell also knocked in two runs apiece.
With a slim 2-1 advantage, HHS pulled away with a five-run fourth inning. Four different players –– Trevor Merckling, Coulter, Tanner Cantrell and Aaron Cantrell –– had run-scoring singles in the frame and Whitley Welch doubled home another run.
Houston (3-4) out-hit Willow Springs 9-4 to snap a two-game losing skid. Coulter, Walker and Merckling each scored twice.
